A Disco Chicken takes flight: United Cargo’s sparkiest mission yet

You don’t see an eight-foot disco chicken every day — but when you do, you make sure to tell that story.

United Cargo recently took flight with one of its most dazzling shipments yet: “Hennifer,” a larger-than-life sculpture covered in more than 500,000 hand-laid mirror tiles by Denver-based artist Lauren Young. Bound for her debut at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, Hennifer was no ordinary passenger — but the United Cargo team made sure she travelled just as safely and smoothly.

Moving the glittering bird from DEN to IAH required creativity and precision in equal measure. United Cargo specialists worked hand-in-hand with Lauren to custom-design a crate meeting strict aircraft specifications and height limits. Before departure, Hennifer was carefully wrapped, cushioned, and secured to protect every glimmering feather.

“It takes incredible teamwork to move something like Hennifer across the country — we just got to share the sparkle,” said Doug McCuen, DEN Cargo Operations Manager at United.

From the Denver ramp to Houston’s rodeo ground, the mission highlighted what United Cargo does best: coordinate complex logistics and collaborate across teams to move what matters — whether it’s critical cargo, special deliveries, or an eight-foot disco chicken.

Because at United, even when cargo gets a little sparkly, we know how to make it fly.
